As of 2016, the LIRR has 8 active control towers. All movements on the LIRR are under the control of the Movement Bureau in Jamaica, which gives orders to the towers that control a specific portion of the railroad. Movements in Amtrak territory are controlled by Penn Station Control Center or PSCC, run jointly by the LIRR and Amtrak.

This is the location where the present Central Branch splits from the Main Line at Beth Interlocking one mile southeast of the Bethpage station on the way to Babylon station and the Montauk Branch. The LIRR built the B-Tower at Beth Interlocking in 1925 to replace hand-operated switching between the tracks.
PD Tower. In 1912, the Long Island Rail Road added a control tower to Patchogue Station on South Ocean Avenue, for both the Montauk Branch and the former trolley line owned by the Suffolk Traction Company. The tower was designated by the LIRR as the "PD Tower" and was also used for hooping.
