Allstate Insurance Company, named after Sears’ tire brand, went into business on April 17, 1931, offering auto insurance by direct mail and through the Sears catalog. This was in line with one of the objectives of a company to sell automobile insurance in the same manner as Sears sold its merchandise.
Career. Wilson held various financial positions at Amoco, where he worked from 1980 to 1986. He was managing director of mergers and acquisitions at Dean Witter Reynolds from 1986 to 1993. Wilson was formerly chairman and president of Allstate Financial, where he led expansion of financial retirement services.
After the IPO of Allstate, Liddy held positions of increasing responsibility with the Allstate Corporation, the largest publicly held personal lines property and casualty insurer in America, from 1994 to 2008. He served as chairman from January 1999 until his retirement in April 2008.
Closer to home, Allstate has been headquartered in Northbrook (Northfield Township) since 1967. That is all about to change as the insurance company is selling the campus on Sanders Road.
