The Metro North West & Bankstown Line (numbered M1) is a rapid transit rail line in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The first and currently only line on the Sydney Metro network, it commenced operation on 26 May 2019, originally running between Tallawong and Chatswood , before the line was extended on 19 August 2024 to Sydenham .
The agreement had required Norfolk Southern to maintain the line at a standard to permit Metro-North trains to operate between 60 and 79 miles per hour in exchange for Metro-North's paying the railroad at the going cents-per-mile rate. Metro-North paid Norfolk Southern $583,420 in 2002.

In the late 1990s, Metro-North began considering adding a station in either West Haven or neighboring Orange to fill the ten-mile (16 km) gap between the Milford and New Haven stations—the longest such gap on the New Haven mainline. Both town governments were supportive of a station, which was then to cost $25–30 million.
