In 2000 Matiba released his autobiography, Aiming High. As of 2010 he lived in Riara Ridge, Rironi (near Limuru), with his wife, Edith. Their son, Raymond, is a former chairman of the Kenya Tourist Board. Matiba died on 15 April 2018 at the Karen Hospital after a long illness. References

Murang'a county also has a teachers training college,Murang'a Teachers college in Makuyu. The college offers training for primary school teachers. Another public institution is the Michuki Technical Training Institute which is located near Karugia Shopping Centre in Kangema subcounty.
