Watermill is a ballet choreographed by Jerome Robbins when he was balletmaster at the New York City Ballet and set to a musical piece written a year earlier by Teiji Ito (also entitled “Watermill”), with costumes by Patricia Zipprodt, lighting by Jennifer Tipton and décor by Robbins in association with Davie Reppa.
Lead roles in the first piece were danced by New York City Ballet guest artists Jacques d'Amboise and Melissa Hayden. In 1970, the mayor of Kansas City, Ilus Winfield Davis, proclaimed a special “Civic Ballet Week" to recognize the company. During the 1970–1971 season, the company name changed back to Kansas City Ballet.
