Live Subway Map. In October 2020, the MTA launched a digital version of the map showing real-time service patterns and service changes, designed by Work & Co. The real-time map uses a variation of the Vignelli map, with each route being depicted on its own band rather than being grouped by their trunk color.
The design of the subway map by Massimo Vignelli, published by the MTA between 1972 and 1979, has become a modern classic but the MTA deemed the map flawed due to its placement of geographical elements. A late night-only version of the map was introduced on January 30, 2012.
