The Conestoga River ( Pennsylvania German: Kanneschtooge Rewwer ), also referred to as Conestoga Creek ( Pennsylvania German: Kanneschtooge Grick ), is a 61.6-mile-long (99.1 km) [4] tributary of the Susquehanna River flowing through the center of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States.
Conestoga is in southwestern Lancaster County, in the eastern part of Conestoga Township. It is situated between the Conestoga River to the northwest and Pequea Creek to the southeast. It is 7 miles (11 km) south-southwest of Lancaster, the county seat, and 3 miles (5 km) northeast of the Susquehanna River.
The Conestoga wagon was a heavy American wagon of English and German type from the late 18th century and into the 19th century. It was used for freight and drawn by teams of horses or oxen depending on load. The covered canvas top was supported on eight to twelve angled bows, rather than upright. Capacity was around 4 to 5 tons with no springs.
