The Ministry of State Security (MSS) is China's civilian intelligence, security and secret police agency, responsible for foreign and domestic espionage and political security of the CCP. It was formed in 1983 by merging the Central Investigation Department and the counterintelligence elements of the Ministry of Public Security.
