NEW YORK CITY — A running favorite New York City tradition is almost here. The 2023 TCS New York City Marathon is expected to send 50,000 runners over the five boroughs Sunday.
MENDHAM/CHESTER, NJ — Several area runners were among the more than 50,000 to tackle one of the most popular road races in the world — the 2023 New York City Marathon on Sunday.
In total, 35 men and 30 women have won the open division of the New York City Marathon, while nine men and seven women have won the wheelchair division. The winners have represented 22 countries: Americans have won the marathon the most, doing so on 32 occasions; Kenyans have won 26 times; and Norwegians 10 times.
The 2022 New York City Marathon, the 51st running of that city's premier long-distance race, was held on November 6, 2022. The race followed its traditional route, which passes through all five boroughs of New York City. 47,839 people finished the event. It was the warmest New York City Marathon on record, with peak temperatures of 75 °F (24 °C).
