For much of her career, Guttentag was a professor of psychology at Queens College and the Graduate School and University Center of City University of New York (CUNY). In 1972, she left CUNY to work at Harvard University where she was Director of the Social Development Research Center and the Center for Evaluation Research. [4]
On July 1, 2018, the authority to grant doctorates in clinical psychology was transferred from the CUNY Graduate Center to City College. In May 2023, CCNY officials announced that the institution will open an immigrant center to assist undocumented students.
The institutions merged into CUNY included the Free Academy (later City College of New York), the Female Normal and High School (later Hunter College), Brooklyn College, and Queens College.
