TVRI Sulawesi Selatan signed on on 7 December 1972 [1] as TVRI Ujung Pandang. It became one of the earliest local television stations in Indonesia and the first in Sulawesi. LPP TVRI South Sulawesi was established based on the Decree of the Governor of South Sulawesi Number 178/VII/71 of 15 July 1971. [2]
RRI and TVRI were set up as a service corporation (Perusahaan Jawatan or Perjan) under Ministry of Finance in the same year (TVRI was later set up again as a state-owned enterprise in 2002) and officially became independent public service broadcasters in 2005. RRI was established on 11 September 1945.
As the only TV station in Indonesia for many years, aside from coverage of state events, sessions of the People's Consultative Assembly and national holidays, as well as news, educational programming and regional programs in the many regional languages, TVRI had also broadcast entertainment, child-oriented and sports programmes to suit the needs of the viewing public.
