The route serves only the section of Myrtle Avenue within Brooklyn; the section within Queens is served by the Q55 bus. The B54 replaced the Myrtle Avenue Line, the first streetcar line in Brooklyn, which was built by the Brooklyn City Railroad and opened in 1854.
