Near the northeastern corner of the county, NY 30 enters the city of Amsterdam. The route meets the New York State Thruway ( I-90) and NY 5S via separate interchanges before heading downhill as a four-lane divided highway approaching the Mohawk River (here part of the Erie Canal ).
New York State Route 52A is a 2.78-mile (4.47 km) alternate route of NY 52 in western Sullivan County. The route begins at NY 17B near the hamlet of Fosterdale and continues north and east to its terminus at NY 52 near the north end of Kenoza Lake. It serves mainly to shorten the trip from Callicoon to Liberty via NY 52.
