The New York City Transit Authority (trading as MTA New York City Transit) provides bus, subway, and paratransit service throughout New York City.
Paratransit (the term used in North America) or Intermediate Public Transport (also known by other names such as community transport ), is a type of transportation services that supplement fixed-route mass transit by providing individualized rides without fixed routes or timetables.
The division comprises two brands: MTA Bus and MTA New York City Bus. While MTA Bus is an amalgamation of former private companies' routes, MTA New York City Bus is composed of public routes that were taken over by the city before 2005. The MTA also operates paratransit services and formerly operated Long Island Bus.
The MTA is currently testing another service, MYAAR, that will let paratransit users schedule a ride, track the vehicle's location and provide feedback within the MYmta app.
