The station opened on March 15, 1955, as one of the original stations on the CTS Rapid Transit. The original station, which had an entrance on the east side of East 105th Street, lasted almost 50 years. On January 11, 2005, RTA broke ground for a reconstruction of the station.
The station was the original western terminus of the CTS Rapid Transit when the west side portion of the line opened on August 14, 1955. The line was extended 1.84 miles (2.96 km) west to Triskett station on November 15, 1958. In late 2005, RTA began rebuilding the station, which was expected to take two years.
