Here's How To Pay For Subway Rides With Your Phone. Straphangers will be able to test the MTA's new tap-to-pay fare system starting Friday. Here's what you need to know about OMNY.
OMNY can currently be used to pay fares at all New York City Subway and Staten Island Railway stations, on all MTA buses, AirTrain JFK, Metro North 's Hudson Rail Link, and on the Roosevelt Island Tram; when completely rolled out, it will also replace the MetroCard on Bee-Line buses, and NICE buses.
Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road riders can now choose Masterpass as a payment option within the MTA eTix app on any iOS or Android device.

Once the app leaves beta testing, though, the MTA has announced plans to combine eTix functionality into the MYmta app. In the future, the MTA also intends to add bus and subway fare payment options to the application as part of its new OMNY fare payment system.
SmarTrip is a contactless stored-value smart card payment system managed by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) uses a compatible payment system called CharmCard.
In future versions of the MYmta app, the MTA planned to integrate the eTix functionality, as well as make it easier for Access-A-Ride customers to view when their vehicle will arrive at a certain point. In October 2020, the MTA unveiled a new digital map providing real-time arrival estimates and service updates.
The MTA is currently testing another service, MYAAR, that will let paratransit users schedule a ride, track the vehicle's location and provide feedback within the MYmta app.
