Website. dmv.ny.gov. The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles ( NYSDMV or DMV) is the department of the New York state government [1] responsible for vehicle registration, vehicle inspections, driver's licenses, learner's permits, photo ID cards, and adjudicating traffic violations.
Plates are currently issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NYSDMV). Front and rear plates are required on all vehicles except for motorcycles and trailers.
A few other states, such as New York, allow, although do not require, out-of-state students to register their vehicles in state.
