The City University of New York ( CUNY, spoken / ˈkjuːni /, KYOO-nee) is the public university system of New York City. It is the largest urban university system in the United States, comprising 25 campuses: eleven senior colleges, seven community colleges, and seven professional institutions.
The school was renamed in 1953 in honor of Bernard M. Baruch, a noted statesman and financier who was instrumental in the school's formation. In 1968, after the addition of arts and sciences departments and degree programs, Baruch College became a senior college within the CUNY system.
