In 1967, the college was founded as Conestoga College of Applied Arts and Technology by the government of Ontario to grant diplomas and certificates in career-related, skills-oriented programs.
Most post-secondary colleges in Ontario typically offer certificate and diploma programs. There are 24 publicly funded colleges in Ontario. Most are designated as a College of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT), although five are designated as a Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning (ITAL).
It offers full-time and part-time programs at the baccalaureate, diploma, certificate, and graduate levels attended primarily by international students, from whom it draws 80 per cent of its tuition revenue.
