NEW YORK — Nearly 36,000 New Yorkers have had their driver's licenses suspended for failing to take the required eye exams in time, according to Newsday.
In order to stay licensed, all New York drivers must submit a passing vision exam to the DMV no later than Nov. 26, according to Newsday.
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NYSDMV or DMV) is the department of the New York state government responsible for vehicle registration, vehicle inspections, driver's licenses, learner's permits, photo ID cards, and adjudicating traffic violations.
About 49,500 drivers statewide could have their licenses suspended because they failed to send in their tests, according to the DMV's most recent estimate, an agency spokesperson said.
A full driver's education course is not required in New York State, although license applicants who do not have a driver's ed certificate must complete a five-hour pre-licensing course.
