Music Under New York musicians at the 34th Street–Hudson Yards station on Manhattan's West Side. Music Under New York (MUNY) is a part of the Arts & Design program by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) that schedules musical performances in transportation hubs across its rapid transit, ferry, and commuter rail systems.
The MTA started planning for a far west side service in 2013, in conjunction with the 7 train's extension to 34 Street - Hudson Yards. [5] It originally was planned to go from 59th Street to Spring Street, via the West Side Highway until 14th Street, and Washington / Greenwich Streets south of there.
The current R service is the successor to the original route 2 of the Brooklyn–Manhattan Transit Corporation. [5] [6] When 2 service began on January 15, 1916, it ran between Chambers Street on the BMT Nassau Street Line and 86th Street on the BMT Fourth Avenue Line, using the Manhattan Bridge to cross the East River, and running via Fourth Avenue local.
