The observation deck has been known since 2005 as Top of the Rock, when it reopened after a renovation by Gabellini Sheppard Associates. The original limestone and cast aluminum architectural details were conserved. In 2011, the observation deck had 2.5 million visitors a year and grossed $25 million.
Rides start on Dec. 1 and tickets to take photos on the beam are sold as part of a VIP pass, starting at $160, according to the Rockefeller Center website.
