Loxahatchee Groves is a town in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The town was incorporated November 1, 2006, as the 38th municipality in Palm Beach County. The first election for town council members was held on March 13, 2007. The area had been settled since 1917, although Loxahatchee Groves did not become a municipality until 2006.
The community took its name from the Loxahatchee River. Loxahatchee is located within the Indian Trails Improvement District and the Loxahatchee Groves Water Control District. Lion Country Safari, a drive-through safari park, is located in Loxahatchee.
Loxahatchee Groves Elementary and Frontier Elementary, also nearby, are at 82% and 80% capacity, respectively.
The CDP is north of Royal Palm Beach, Wellington, and Loxahatchee Groves, and is approximately 18 miles (29 km) northwest of West Palm Beach. It straddles the western fringes of the highly developed eastern portion of Palm Beach County and the agricultural-rural western portions.
Running October through May each season, this Loxahatchee Groves market features live music and a variety of exceptional goods from over two dozen vendors.
The consequent flooding left neighborhoods in The Acreage, Loxahatchee, Loxahatchee Groves, Royal Palm Beach, and Wellington stranded for up to several days. As Hurricane Irma approached in September 2017, mandatory or voluntary evacuations were ordered for more than 290,000 residents of Palm Beach County. [49]
