The R44 is a New York City Subway car model built by the St. Louis Car Company from 1971 to 1973 for the B Division and the Staten Island Railway (SIR). A single staircase from each platform goes down to a waiting area/crossunder, where a turnstile bank provides access to and from the station. Outside fare control , there is a token booth and two staircases going down to the southwest and northwest corners of Myrtle Avenue and Cedar Street.
The current R service is the successor to the original route 2 of the Brooklyn–Manhattan Transit Corporation.
