NEW YORK CITY — A new, real-time capacity tracker on MTA's app and website will give riders a chance to see if their approaching bus is crowded.
MYmta is a mobile application-based passenger information display system developed by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) of New York City. A beta version of the app was launched on July 2, 2018, and as of June 2019 [update] is still undergoing beta testing .
In October 2010, the developers of the buses' GPS devices implemented the MTA system's first bus-tracking app, which monitored buses along the M16 and M34 routes. This evolved into the current web app, which originally tracked buses along the B63 route in Brooklyn when it started in February 2011.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) said its new MTA app is available for download. The app is still in Beta testing, but will eventually succeed the MYmta app.
The MTA is currently testing another service, MYAAR, that will let paratransit users schedule a ride, track the vehicle's location and provide feedback within the MYmta app.
MTA Bus Time allows riders to track the location of buses along a route. On computer browsers, the service uses Google Maps to display bus routes and the position of buses along routes, by typing in a route (e.g. Q22 ) or intersection into the search box.
In December 2006, MTA New York City Transit launched TripPlanner, its online travel itinerary service. TripPlanner offers users customized subway, bus, and walking directions within all five boroughs of New York City, as well as service alerts and service advisories for planned track work.
Rather than tweet real-time alerts about delays and service changes, the MTA will update riders on its homepage, the MYmta and TrainTime apps, emails and texts, officials said.
