The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) is a commuter railway system serving all four counties of Long Island, with two stations in the Manhattan borough of New York City in the U.S. state of New York.
The Long Island Rail Road formally transferred freight operations to the New York and Atlantic Railway in May 1997. Currently, the NY&A has no freight customers on the line. Today, the LIRR uses the secondary to transport track work equipment to and from the Garden City yard.
