The MTA began offering OMNY contactless cards on October 1, 2021, and introduced fare capping on February 28, 2022. Reduced-fare customers were allowed to use OMNY starting in June 2022 using their own debit or credit cards which must be registered with OMNY.
MYmta. MYmta is a mobile application -based passenger information display system developed by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) of New York City. A beta version of the app was launched on July 2, 2018, and as of June 2019 is still undergoing beta testing.
Implemented in August 2019, riders are able to use their Visa, Mastercard, or AMEX contactless credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay at the fare gates on the Metrorail. As of February 2020, contactless bank cards and digital wallets are also accepted on Metrobuses.
There will also be physical OMNY cards available for those without smart device abilities or tappable credit cards, the MTA said.
Lost your MetroCard? Getting a refund may become easier as the MTA launched a new online claim form on it’s eFix web site, the New York Post reported.
This one started on June 1, 2010, and ended on November 30, 2010. The first two months started with the customer just using the MasterCard PayPass debit or credit card. However, this trial was the debut of having a rider use the VISA PayWave debit or credit card to enter the system, which started on August 1, 2010.
