MYmta is intended to combine MTA functionalities that are already available in separate apps such as Subway Time, Bus Time, and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and Metro-North Railroad Train Time applications into one all-encompassing application.
The MTA has developed several official web and mobile apps for its subway and bus services, and also provides data to private app developers to create their own unofficial MTA apps. In 2012, the MTA officially released the Subway Time app, which uses subway countdown clock data to determine the next-train arrival times on seven services. [93]
Both the app and the website, new.mta.info, show commuters the nearest subway and bus stops as well as real-time arrival information, which is currently displayed on subway countdown clocks...
MTA e-Tix users will have an automatic update to the TrainTime app, but Metro-North and LIRR app users will have to make switch mid-August.
The new app has schedules and service alerts for subways, buses, Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad all in one place.
In 2012, real-time station information for the "mainline" IRT, comprising all the IRT services except the 7 train, was made available to third party developers via an API, through MTA's Subway Time mobile app and as open data.
Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road riders can now choose Masterpass as a payment option within the MTA eTix app on any iOS or Android device.
Tickets can be purchased on the train, from ticket counters or machines in some rail stations, or with a mobile app called mTicket. If a local vendor or ticket machine is available, riders will pay a surcharge for paying with cash on board.
A new feature of the app is that it will allow passengers to find a train by searching for a car number on that train, and they also be able to see the location of all incoming trains on one...
Tickets may be bought from a ticket office at stations, ticket vending machines (TVMs), online through the "WebTicket" program or through apps for iOS and Android devices, or on the train. Monthly tickets may be bought through the MTA's "Mail&Ride" program where monthly passes are delivered by mail.
