The Maryland Transit Administration was originally known as the Baltimore Metropolitan Transit Authority, then the Maryland Mass Transit Administration before it changed to its current name in October 2001. [1] The MTA took over the operations of the old Baltimore Transit Company on April 30, 1970.
MTA unlimited ride passes (also known as "GO-passes") also cover the fare. In 2006, three shorter, distinctively painted buses, 30-foot Opus buses were purchased and are used exclusively by the Mondawmin shuttle. The Opus buses are the only non 40- and 60-foot buses in MTA's fleet; held at Northwest (4) garage.
