On September 15, 2018 a lawsuit was filed by former School of American Ballet dancer Alexandra Waterbury against New York City Ballet, Jared Longhitano, Chase Finlay, the School of American Ballet, Ramasar, and Zach Catazaro. Subsequently, Ramasar was fired from the NYC Ballet.

Farrell retired from the New York City Ballet at age 44 on November 26, 1989, after being fired by Martins due to her three year long absence from the stage, which was caused by her arthritis. She performed Sophisticated Lady and Vienna Waltzes .
Kirkland was repeatedly fired (but always rehired) by American Ballet Theatre for drug abuse and erratic behavior. It was her partner Patrick Bissell who had introduced her to cocaine, which the two did together.
