The Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department (MTAPD) is a division of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York state. [2] MTA police officers are fully empowered under the New York State Public Authorities Law and are commissioned in the state of Connecticut.
The MTA board voted to approve its $17 billion budget for 2020 and with it a $249 million, four-year expenditure to increase the MTA police force of 783 officers by more than 60 percent.

Governor Cuomo also proposed implementing congestion pricing in New York City to fund the MTA, which was approved in 2021, but as of 2024, it was indefinitely postponed by his successor, Kathy Hochul.
