Articles with more than 500 words are almost never stubs. Stubs are often tagged with a stub template at the bottom of the article; when the article is expanded, this template should be removed. Articles may also be classified as stubs on talk page banners, and these banners should be updated as well.

Of the 51,011 top-importance articles there are only 4,243 Stub articles and 17,346 Start articles. Stub and Start articles still account for most mid-importance subjects, and by definition do not meet the needs of most users. This may not be a serious concern if, as is often the case, importance ratings are unrelated to levels of reader interest.
Please put any stub-sized articles into an appropriate stub category, by using a stub tag for a specific topic instead of a generic stub tag, where possible; for example, by using the {} tag or one of its subtypes for art-related stubs. Ideally, this category should be empty or close to empty.
Placing the parent stub on the article serves to give a helpful first approximation at the correct category. Often, however, it is not possible to easily judge the stub sub-category—that's why they are stubs! It also can be time consuming to find the specific stub type or even a list of stubs.
