In January 2016, New York governor Cuomo announced plans for a combined Penn-Farley Post Office complex, a project estimated to cost $3 billion. At that time, the project was renamed Moynihan Train Hall. In August 2017, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Moynihan Train Hall.
The new Moynihan Train Hall, which opened Jan. 1, did not expand Penn's train capacity. The state is seeking public comment on the alternative plans, before MTA, Amtrak and NJ Transit select one.
